How to Write an Effective Meta Description

A well-written meta description is important for getting readers. While they do not influence your ranking, it can convince searchers to click on your link. Meta descriptions are short blurps that let Internet searchers know exactly what your page will tell them. Think of them as a way to market your webpage to readers. Google search results allow you 156 characters. If your description exceeds that, Google will use as many whole words as it can, and replace the rest with ellipsis. If you want your entire description to be seen, keep it around 140 characters or less. Avoid duplicate meta descriptions. Each page on your blog or website should have its own unique meta description. Duplicates may cause Google to ignore your descriptions, and pages, altogether.
